“Dr. David Bird graduated from the University of Georgia college of veterinary medicine in 1974. In 1975 he opened Morehead Animal Hospital in Morehead City, NC. After 50 years He still practices small animal medicine and surgery.
In 2017, he was looking forward to knee replacement surgery on his left knee and someone told him about stem cell therapy. His personal outcome was so successful he sought out and partnered with Ardent Animal Health to start offering stem cell and PRP therapy for his canine patients.
He has done over 200 cases. The majority of these cases were cruciate repair using only stem cell therapy as treatment with good to excellent results.
Morehead Animal Hospital can boast clients traveling several hundred miles for this innovative treatment.
The exciting and encouraging results from this technology is one of the reasons he is still practicing near full time and what it has done for his practice growth.
On a personal note, he and his wife kelly have three children and four grandchildren and enjoy traveling to Hawaii and fishing in Alaska, but he does not plan on retiring anytime soon although he is going to cut back and enjoy life a little bit more with non-veterinary endeavors.
